Months ago I shared the early stages of this painting on the blog. Now I can finally share the finished piece with you.
The beauty of the Pacific Northwest is pulled into the artwork. You can spot the colors from a lush lavender field and the blue of distant mountains.
We were only fifteen
The title given to a painting is important since it inevitably helps define the piece to the viewer. Sometimes the title helps the observer understand where the artist was coming from when they created the artwork.
The titles of my pieces usually take time to come up with. I have to find the words to convey the mindset that I had while creating the work. I may look for inspiration in music that I listened to while painting or books that I'm reading at the time.
This painting is titled We were only fifteen. Do you remember being fifteen years old? The theme of the artwork is about possibility and having your whole life ahead of you.
An expansive sunset is energizing and can feed the soul. I wanted to incorporate this feeling into the artwork. For me the final piece calls to mind the sweetness of a summer heat wave and the promise of relief that the sunset brings.
