Colorful Study

When I need a break from my main project I often pick up pencils or charcoal and a sketchbook. Sometimes these smaller sketches are saved since they have the potential to lead to something bigger or be worked into a different piece.

I rediscovered a 5in by 7in treasure from my box of sketches and studies. It was made on cherished handmade paper from Nepal with watercolor pencils.

The paper is so thin that the pigment shows through the back of the artwork as well. I'm not sure which side I like better. Perhaps I'll tear it up and use it in my next encaustic painting. Or should I keep it as-is?
