Paint Made From Nature

I made my own oil paint from rocks that I found around Bellingham, WA.  I ground the stones by hand using a mortar and pestle.

The rocks themselves were red but the paint that I made from them was more of a warm brown.

I love the color that I got from the rocks.

I love the look of this earth paint. It has a soft burnt umber hue and adds wonderful texture. Now I want to make more. I'll be on the lookout for colorful clay and rock.
